Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB) - National UK charity providing a good range of information for blind or partially sighted people.

National Library for the Blind (UK) - A free library service for visually impaired readers who want books in accessible formats. Offer braille books by mail, or by downloading an electronic file.

Talking Newspaper Association UK - A registered charity providing national and local newspapers and magazines on audio tape, computer disk, e-mail and CD-ROM. Small subscription fee. Details of the new Sightline project.

Listening Books - A charity that provides a postal audio book library to people throughout the UK. There is a annual subscription. Online catalogue.

International Glaucoma Association - A UK charity providing advice and support to glaucoma sufferers, campaigning for and funding research. FAQ sheets available on site.

British Wireless for the Blind Fund - Provides specially adapted radio equipment on a free permanent loan basis to registered blind people who do not have a set they can use and are not in a position to purchase one. Also provides a catalogue of suitable sets for those who can purchase one.

Calibre - A UK charity which provides free cassette recordings of thousands of books for blind or print disabled people.

AccessBooks - New approach to easily accessible libraries of books and periodicals for non-print readers.

ClearVision - A nationwide lending library of braille and print children's books.

Nystagmus Network - A small charity providing information and support for sufferers. Website offers a variety of colour schemes to aid reading.

Action for Blind People - UK charity. Site contains a good range of information covering the practical aspects of dealing with visual impairment and blindness.

The Macular Disease Society - A self-help society for people suffering from Macular Disease. Includes information and practical advice on making the most of remaining vision, with details of their events and activities.

The Eyeless Trust - A charity offering information about Anophthalmia, Microphthalmia and Coloboma, and support for families affected.

Aspire Consultancy - Offers assessment and training services for visually impaired people, and corporate clients. Also supplies appropriate specialist technology and software.
